After the success of last year's
tionol, we are returning this year to the Fern Cliff House in the Catskills
town of
East Durham, about two hours north of New York City.
East Durham is well known in the Irish
music and dance community for its annual music events, including the Irish
Arts Week in July. Our hosts, Carol Ann and Con Corbett provided us with
all the amenities we needed in one location, so you can abandon your car
for the entire weekend! We will be doing things to make this year's
event even better than last year. The Corbett's look forward to
welcoming us back this year.
We have a diverse and talented lineup of guests this year. In conjunction
with the Southern California Pipers' Club, we are privileged to have Clare
piper Maire
Ni Ghrada and Waterford piper Jimmy O'Brien
Moran join us. Limerick piper and pipemaker Mickey Dunne will join us as the reed
making expert. Tipperarypiper Michael Cooney, now residing in the
U.S. and Dublin piper Ivan Goff , now living in New York City, will join us for the first time. Toronto piper Debbie Quigley, and Vermont piper and pipemaker
Benedict Koehler will return to the teaching staff. Rhode Island piper Patrick Hutchinson, will be available for private lessons on Sunday.
Again this year, we will bring back the popular fiddle workshops.
Patrick Ourceau,
whose recording Live at Mona's demonstrates his mastery on the fiddle,
will join Willie Kelly in teaching fiddle classes throughout the weekend.
Both piper and fiddler attendees can use the downloadable registration form
to register for the weekend.
Full registration as either a piper or fiddler is $85, a great value, we
are sure you agree. The room-and-meal rates at the Fern Cliff are as
follows:
- For the entire weekend from
Friday dinner through Monday breakfast - $190
- For two nights and meals (e.g., Friday and Saturday or Saturday and
Sunday) - $140
Rooms at the Ferncliff
will be double occupancy. On your registration form please indicate whether
you have a preferred roommate; otherwise you will be assigned a roommate.
If you are pre-registering, PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE FERN CLIFF DIRECTLY FOR
ACCOMMODATIONS! You can reserve your room right on the tionol registration
form.
For those who would like a single room or a quieter location, try McKenna's
Irish House, Route 145, East Durham, NY 12423. Please contact them directly
at (518)-634-7681. Another location to consider is Furlong's Riverside Inn
and Pub, also on Route 145 in East Durham (518)-634-7687. Those of you
who have been to the Irish festivals in East Durham will no doubt be familiar with
these well known locations.
For additional suggestions of accommodations, try the Town of
Durham home page.

For those who wish to share a ride either as a rider or a driver, try our new

In addition to the teachers and organizers of this event, we are grateful
to all who have so generously contributed time, information, pictures, and,
of course, the funds necessary to ensure our success. Particular thanks to

guidance, and to the Southern California Pipers' Club, which is
co-sponsoring Maire Ni Ghrada
and Jimmy O'Brien Moran this year.
